Athletes with disabilities spend hours every day training to earn a place on a Paralympic team or to attend a Paralympic training camp or clinic. However, unlike other countries, Paralympic equestrian athletes in Australia currently receive no personal funding and rely on the support of families, communities, and sponsors to help defray expenses and purchase the equipment they need to compete. Supporting the top level riders provides encouragement and inspiration to all those people looking to develop their abilities! OUR INSPIRING ATHLETES NEED YOUR SUPPORT There are two donation programs currently running to support the Australian Para Equestrian Team: Donate to help purchase horses: There are two athletes in equestrian dressage. To compete at the paralympic level our riders need top quality, well trained, well behaved horses. These horses undergo years of training before being suitable and are therefore expensive to buy. Unfortunately athletes with a disability are unable to train horses to this level and rely on being able to purchase horses already trained. Help us fund the purchase of competitive horses for the Australia Paralympic Equestrian Team. Donate to help train our athletes: As you can imagine there are many things our athletes need to do and have to be world beaters. Our next goal is the World Championships in England, July 2007. This is where we qualify for team places for the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing. To do their best our athletes need to train in England (on hired horses they have never ridden before) for at least 3 weeks prior to the start of competition. They will then be competing against riders that are riding their own horses. So as you can see they are up against it before they start. We know they are good enough if they can get to England and train prior to competition start. Contribute to the Para Equestrian Australia Ltd competition fund - it's tax deductible and you will be inspired by the results.
