Valuheart Heartworm Tablets for Dogs

Registered Name Valuheart Heartworm Tablets for Small [Medium, Large] Dogs
Composition Small Dog. Ivermectin 60 microgram. Medium Dog. Ivermectin 120 microgram. Large Dog. Ivermectin 240 microgram.
Actions Eliminates the tissue stage of heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis) that infects the dog in the month before treatment. Heartworm larvae acquired up to four months prior to the initiation of Valuheart will be controlled when monthly treatment with Valuheart is continued for twelve months.
Indications Prevention of heartworm disease in dogs.
Contraindications Administration to puppies under 6 weeks of age.
Warnings Consult a veterinarian if the dog has not previously been on heartworm prevention medication or if there has been a lapse in the preventive program. All dogs should be tested by a veterinarian and be free of canine heartworm, adults and microfilariae before using this product. Valuheart Heartworm Tablets are not effective against adult D. immitis, but treatment may reduce the number of circulating microfilariae to levels that are undetectable.
 Precautions
Safety directions. Poisonous if swallowed. Will irritate the eyes. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands after use.
First aid. If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126.
Disposal. Dispose of container by wrapping with paper and putting in the garbage.
Adverse Reactions A mild hypersensitivity reaction, presumably due to dead or dying microfilariae, and particularly involving transient diarrhoea, has been observed in clinical trials after treatment of some dogs that have circulating microfilariae.
Dosage and Administration The initial dose of Valuheart Heartworm Tablets must be given within one month of the first exposure to mosquitoes. However, they also control heartworm infection when treatment is initiated up to four months after exposure to infected mosquitoes, provided monthly treatment is continued for at least twelve months. The final dose must be given within one month after the last exposure to mosquitoes.
Give tablets orally at the recommended minimum dose level of 6 microgram/kg bodyweight once a month, or as follows. Small dogs less than or equal to 10 kg. 60 microgram. Medium dogs 11 to 20 kg. 120 microgram. Large dogs 21 to 40 kg. 240 microgram. Dogs > 40 kg. Give an additional 1/2 tablet for each additional 20 kg of bodyweight.
Tablets may be given by adding to food, offering by hand, or by wrapping in food.
When replacing another heartworm preventive product in a heartworm disease preventive program, the first dose of Valuheart Heartworm Tablets must be given within one month of the last dose of the former medication. Valuheart Heartworm Tablets have a wide margin of safety for dogs of all breeds, including stud dogs, breeding bitches and puppies 6 weeks of age and older.
