Actions Oxibendazole disrupts parasite energy metabolism by binding to tubulin, a protein required for the uptake of nutrients and other functions in the parasite. Benzimidazoles also produce many changes in susceptible nematodes, e.g. inhibition of mitochondrial fumerate reductase, reduced glucose transport and uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation. Praziquantel disrupts the integument of the tapeworm, exposing it to damage from the digestive enzymes in the gut and to attack by the dog's immune system. Praziquantel also interferes with muscles in the tapeworm scolex, causing a loss of attachment to the bowel wall. Indications Liver flavoured anthelmintic for dogs with efficacy against tapeworms (Echinococcus, Dipylidium and Taenia sp.), roundworms (Toxocara and Toxascaris), hookworms (Anycylostoma sp. and Uncinaria), and whipworms (Trichus sp.). Does not prevent heartworm. Dosage and Administration One tablet of appropriate size depending on weight of dog.
